Former Black Stars goalkeepers trainer, has argued that the three goalkeepers selected for the Black Stars in the FIFA 2022 World Cup are tactically and technically better than most of their peers representing the continent in other countries.

According to Najua Issah Yakubu, Senegal’s-Edouard Mendy, Cameroon’s-Andre Onana, and Morocco’s-Yassine Bounou ply their trade for top clubs in the European competition but they are not better than the Ghanaian goalkeepers.

Coach Otto Addo on Monday, November 14, 2022, named Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen and Ibrahim Danlad as the three goalkeepers to keep the post for the stars at the Mundia in Qatar.

This was after he was compelled to leave two top goalkeepers Jojo Wallocot and South African-based Richard Ofori due to injuries.

African champions, Senegal, Cameroon, Morocco, Tunisia and Ghana represent Africa as the five countries who booked their tickets through qualifications.

Speaking on the exploits of the goalkeepers ahead of the tournament, Mr. Najau opined that the three goalkeepers for Ghana have the technical and tactical edge compared to that of the Senegalese, Cameroonian and the Moroccan first choice goalkeepers.

Buttressing his point, the former goalkeepers trainer of the black stars, singled Senegal’s Mendy and noted that he is not good at his feet, especially when his team preferred building attacks from the back.

He, however, pointed out that Danlad Ibrahim, Ati-Zigi, Abdul Manaf are by far good with their feet in terms of build-up play.

He made the remarks Tuesday, November 14, 2022, on the Angel FM/TV’s floodlight sports show hosted by Kofi Jerry.

“I believe that can help us based on philosophy of Ghana and identification of style we want to play at the world cup level,” he added.

Mr. Najua who works for Kumasi Asante Kotoko as its goalkeepers trainer was optimistic the three shot-stoppers will help the Black Stars go far in the yet-to-start FIFA world.
