The Tipper Truckers Association in Ashanti Region have expressed their displeasure in the sudden outrageous increase in the prices of sand and stone from GH400 to GH700 cedis.

According to the drivers, customers would not to be able to afford the new prices bestowed upon them, which will tend to collapse their jobs.

After numerous calculations in a meeting with the Chairmen of various branches, they came to an estimation of paying GH500 even though the leadership demanded an amount of GH700.

The drivers attributed the entire increment in prices to the recent fuel price hikes in the country.

“After writing a petition to the management nothing has been done about the situation,” a tipper truck driver told Bismark Mensah of Angel News.

They, thus, indicated that tipper truck drivers have been working under poor working conditions, a situation they described as bad to their welfare, adding that they will resist any attempt by the leadership to force the aforementioned price on them.

The National and Ashanti Regional Chairman for sand and stone Mr Peter Kwame Donkor said although negotiations are ongoing, they have considered increasing a trip of sand and stone to the GHC700 due to the concurrent increment of fuel and other things.

He assured that as soon as the conclusion on the price is finalised it will be communicate to the branches of tipper trucks drivers for smooth running of their business to restore calm.

“The committee will have a meeting to revise the price but for now, tipper truck users should maintain paying the old rate,” he added.
