A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Victor Smith, has called on the current General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia to resign from his position.

He also called on him to consider stepping down from contesting the National Chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo at its 10th National Delegates Congress currently ongoing at the Accra Sport Stadium.

The former aide to the founder of the NDC party, Jerry John Rawlings, Victor Smith said this while reacting to a leaked tape by the national scribe of the party.

General Mosquito, as Asiedu Nketia is known and called was heard in the leaked tape disclosing several party secrets including the fact that the NDC under John Mahama did not have any evidence when they stormed the Supreme Court to challenge the results of the  2020 elections.

The party had claimed at the court that the 2020 elections were stolen for the current President Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP.

NDC’s lead counsel during the Election petition, Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata had insisted that the Electoral Commission led by Jean Mensah ought to provide the pink sheets used for the Presidential elections so the party can use the documents to prove the rigging it was alleging at the courts.

This line of argument was vehemently opposed by the NPP’s lead counsel, Lawyer Akoto Ampaw and that of the EC as well who insisted the NDC ought to have provided the needed documents to support their claims of rigging.

The Supreme Court in a unanimous decision dismissed the allegations of the NDC who had its General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia as its witness in-chief.

The decision of the court did not go down well with former President John Mahama who said he respected the decision but disagreed with the courts.

Almost two years after the verdict, the General Secretary was heard in the widely publicized audio claiming that the party knew it had no evidence when it stormed the court.

He had claimed Tsatsu Tsikata was the one who presented the idea that they drag the EC and force it to present its pink sheets so they could use for their cross examinations.

A claim, Victor Smith said was unfortunate and hence called General Mosquito who is at the fore front of the Chairmanship race to resign.

“If Asiedu Nketia is a principled politician as he claims, he should resign from his position and also resign from contesting for chairman as well…,” he argued on Angel TV.

To him, the revelations in the audio tell that the General Secretary cannot be trusted to keep party secrets.
