NDC polls: My victory is call to duty – Chairman Asiedu Nketia

Asiedu Nketiah is the incumbent Chairman of the NDC

The newly-elected chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as ‘General Mosquito’, has said his election is a call to lead the opposition party.

He indicated that the victory comes in an enormous way to serve the biggest opposition party in the country.

Mr. Nketia made the remarks on Sunday, December 18, 2022, after he was he was declared winner of the chairmanship race at the party’s national executive elections which took place on Saturday and Sunday, December 17 and 18, 2022, respectfully.

He accumulated 5,574 votes representing 65.17% as against 2,892 representing 33.81% to beat Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo who was the incumbent whiles going into the polls.

Nii Armah Asietey polled 38 votes representing 0.44% while Samuel Yaw Adusei polled 52 votes representing 0.61%.

He stated that “My election indicates that the NDC is not done with me yet. I see this election as a call to duty; the duty is enormous.”

Mr. Nketia, who served as general secretary of the NDC for 17 years, noted the victory is for the party and not for individuals.
