The police have announced the arrest of two out of the 16 persons declared wanted for violent conduct at the 10th Youth and Women’s Conference of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Cape Coast.

The two – Abdul Halid Shaibu and Ibrahim Razak – were arrested in Tamale on Saturday, January 7 through “targeted intelligence operations”.

“The two suspects are currently being held in custody, and assisting the Police with the investigations,” a statement from the Ghana Police Service said.

Photos of the 16 were published after the violence that saw warning shots fired at the Conference.

Some executives of the NDC called the bluff of the police for declaring the 16 wanted, arguing that the law-enforcement agency had no locus to do so.

Other members of the party dissociated from the wanted suspects, saying none was a registered member of the party.

But police assured that they will continue to pursue the suspects until they are all arrested.

“The targeted intelligence operations are still ongoing to arrest the remaining 14 suspects and we would like to assure the public that we shall surely get them to face justice.”
