Ghana is the 72nd least corrupt country in the world according to the latest 202 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI).

A report from Transparency International (TI)  which ranks 180 countries globally shows that Ghana scored 43 out of 100 in the index.

The report which was released on Tuesday, January 31 shows that Ghana has not made any progress since it has scored 43/100 for three consecutive years starting from 2020.

In 2020 and 2021, Ghana ranked 73rd out of 180 countries surveyed.

CPI Score relates to perceptions of the degree of corruption and ranges between 100 (highly clean) and 0 (highly corrupt).

The 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) shows that most countries are failing to stop corruption.

The CPI ranks 180 countries and territories around the world by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, scoring on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).

Information gleaned from Transparency International website indicates that “the global average remains unchanged for over a decade at just 43 out of 100. More than two-thirds of countries score below 50, while 26 countries have fallen to their lowest scores yet. Despite concerted efforts and hard-won gains by some, 155 countries have made no significant progress against corruption or have declined since 2012.”

Generally, Denmark (90) tops the index this year, with Finland and New Zealand following closely, both with a score of 87.

The least-performing countries are Somalia (12), Syria (13) and South Sudan (13).
