West Hills Mall incident: Suspect died of swallowing drugs, not brutality – Police

The late Shadrach Arloo, brother of gospel musician Perpetual Didier who allegedly died in the hands of police brutality and a private guard at the West Hills Mall in Accra is far from that.

According to the autopsy concluded on the body by pathologist, the deceased died from Asphyxiation and Obstruction of airway by a foreign body – the state or process of being deprived of oxygen, which can result in unconsciousness or death.

A statement issued by the police on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, said the pathologist retrieved from the throat of the 32-year-old deceased, “eight zipped bags containing dry leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs tied in a piece of black polythene.”

The suspected narcotic substances were taken through testing process where it proved to be positive for cannabis when submitted for forensic examination in the presence of all the interested parties.

“The pathologist gave the verbal cause of death as asphyxiation and obstruction of airway by a foreign body. He also retrieved from the throat of the deceased, eight zipped bags containing dry leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs tied in a piece of black polythene.

The retrieved, suspected narcotic substances tested positive for cannabis when submitted for forensic examination, in the presence of all the interested parties. In view of the outcome of the post-mortem examination, the case docket is being forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Office for study and advice to determine further police action,” the statement added.
