The 18 individuals who were busted for Tuesday’s disturbances on the University of Ghana campus, would be process for court, the police have confirmed.

The 18 suspects were together with about 200 others who were rioting and believed to be former members of the Commonwealth Hall of the university.

It follows after students at the University of Ghana clashed with the police at the entrance of the Commonwealth Hall after they were prevented from occupying the hall following a directive from university officials.

This comes on the back of the university management’s new residential policy indicating that continuing students are supposed to occupy other halls apart from the Commonwealth and Mensah Sarbah halls to make way for level 100 and graduate students.

The students, however, claimed they have secured an interlocutory injunction to reside in the hall.

“All 18 suspects are in police custody and will be put before the court to face justice. We would like to give the assurance that all other persons involved in the disturbances will be arrested and brought to face justice,” the statement added.

The police statement noted that security has since been tightened on the campus for academic activities to continue without any hindrance.
