A Socio-political activist, Nana Frema Busia, has on the occasion of International Women’s Day, wished for a female to head the next government of Ghana.

Never in history has the governance of the country been woman-led although women have acted in various capacities under the different administrations since the birth of Independence.

That said, there have been some brazen attempts by women to defy the status quo to reach for the highest position. In these attempts, however, some were ruled out at the initial stages before the main contest while others sailed through.

Yet, these individuals who made it into the main contest could not make the numbers needed to grasp the seat and put the country on the world’s political and gender maps—to their dismay.

But commemorating International Women’s Day, Nana Frema Busia hoped to see a woman rise to that pinnacle of political power as Ghana’s first female President.

Nevertheless, the leadership of the prospective female President, according to her, must be underpinned by certain qualities to turn the fortunes of the country around. These included a nurturing spirit and a revolutionary ardour.

She said: “On This International women’s Day, I wish for Ghana, her first female President as the next President, not just any female but a woman with a nurturing spirit, and a strong soft touch that can elevate Ghana from her current doldrum of tears into a godly Values system with healing Grace without Fear. AMEN”
