The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the month of March as a period to embark on a campaign dubbed ‘Operation Save Our Democracy’.

According to the NDC, the campaign, which commenced on Tuesday, March 7, and will end on Friday, March 31, 2023, is to fight against what it described as the “obnoxious constitutional instrument the Electoral Commission is seeking to lay before Parliament.”

The decision was concluded at a meeting held on Tuesday, March 7, by the Functional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress.

Accordingly, the FEC issued that “all campaign activities in all constituencies with sitting NDC MPs are hereby suspended” and that, “all sitting NDC MPs, shall be required to attend all parliamentary sittings.”

“No NDC MP shall undertake any travel that will affect his or her attendance in Parliament. Any MP who has travelled is hereby recalled immediately.

“All regional and constituency executives and aspirants are directed to ensure strict compliance with the directives herein,” the party said in its statement signed by Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary.

The statement further directed all parliamentary aspirants to also adhere to the directives in their own interest as breach of the directives shall attract severe sanctions.

Meanwhile, it noted the dates for the filing of nominations, vetting of parliamentary aspirants and the parliamentary primaries shall remain unchanged.
