The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has indicated that it will embark on a Nationwide Payroll Monitoring Exercise in collaboration with its relevant stakeholders beginning Saturday, April 1, 2023.
The exercise, FWSC said, forms part of its effort geared towards the cleaning up of public sector payroll in line with its core mandate to identifying and expunging any existing fraud and anomalies on it.
It explained that the Commission as government agency is mandated by FWSC Act, 2007 (737) to develop and monitor allowances and benefits, as well as co-ordinate, manage and monitor collective bargaining processes in which government is the direct or indirect employer.
The significance of the exercise, it stresses, is also to ensure that “only approved Salaries and Allowances are paid.”
It, therefore, in a statement signed by its Public Affairs entreated all “Board/Councils and Heads of Public Sector Institutions to conduct their own internal payroll audit and clean-up ahead of that of the Commission’s.
Banks and individuals in receipt of fraudulent salaries and allowances are also advised to take steps to refund same and cease from further fraudulent practices or face the full rigors of the law,” the statement cautioned as added.
