Office of the Ga Traditional Council has announced the date of the year’s ban on drumming and noise-making, as part of the celebration of the Homowo Festival.

The ban which forms part of activities to mark the beginning of the annual festival of the Ga Dangme people, takes effect from takes May 15 to June 15, 2023.

It prevents any form of noisemaking, including the use of loudspeakers, drums, tambourines, funeral rites and roadside evangelism among others.

Areas or boundaries to be affected with the ban are northern boundary, which is the boundary dividing Accra from the Eastern Region, while the western boundary, applies to Odukpon Kpehe in Kasoa and then Osu, which is the eastern boundary.

In addition, residents are to note that all villages and towns under the Osu, Ngleshie Alata and Ga Traditional Councils are affected by the ban.

Public Relations Officer of the Ga Traditional Council, Nii Lartey Anum Tetteh, addressing the media, Thursday, April 20, 2023, on behalf of the Ga Mantse, urged the public to oblige and respect the month-long ban.

“During the period of the ban, the usual form of worship should be confined to the premises of churches/mosques and noise levels should be minimized to the barest limits possible.

“Religious bodies and the Traditional Authorities must show respect for one another and restrain their followers from making derogatory and inflammatory remarks about the beliefs and practices of one another.

“The positioning of loudspeakers outside the premises of churches, mosques and pubs are banned. Roadside evangelists are to cease their activities during this period,” the PRO outlined in the guidelines to ensure full compliance.

According to him, a task force has been constituted to prosecute offenders who defy the directives.

“Apart from an identifiable task force which consists of AMA personnel, the Police Service and representatives from the Traditional Councils with tags, no other person or group of persons should be seen or found enforcing the abatement of noise in the metropolis,” he cautioned.
