Some unemployed Physician Assistants drawn from 12 physician assistant training schools nationwide have picketed at the Ministry of Health over delayed postings.
The students, some of whom graduated in 2018 and 2020 after undertaking their required internships, vented their frustration at the Ministry over the delays in posting them to various health institutions by the government.
Cladded in red armbands while wielding placards at the Ministry of Health premises on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, they demanded immediate answers from the Ministry and immediate deployment to ensure that they begin working.

Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Health Ministry, Isaac Offei Baah, who received the health professionals, said although the Ministry only recruits upon receiving financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance, the sector will ensure things become smooth.

“The Ministry makes recruitment based on clearance that we receive from the Finance Ministry and so when we get the clearance, we will open the portal and then we will allow them to apply.

“We understand the frustration they [the physician assistants] are showing now and we pray that going forward, as we dialogue, we will be able to make things easier,” Mr. Offei Baah added.
