The incumbent Member of Parliament for Shai-Osudoku Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo has stated that retaining her seat at the NDC’s recently held primaries was destined.

According to the lawmaker, her bid to become a third-timer representative of the people in parliament was ‘written on the walls’ amidst her achievements.

At the just ended National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential and parliamentary primaries held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, Mrs. Linda Obenewaa Ocloo won her bid to defend her parliamentary seat in the 2024 general elections.

The exercise for the constituency was held at Doryumu Presbyterian Primary School.

After the fierce contest, she garnered 673 votes as against 516 votes for Dr. Kpessah-Whyte while David Tetteh Assumeng, a former MP of the area polled 19 votes.

With some 157 votes ahead of her competitors, this becomes the third consecutive time the MP has convincingly floored Dr. Michael Kpessah-Whyte – her main contender who had attempted to unseat her.

To that end, the former Executive Director of the National Service Scheme has succumbed to the incumbent MP for the third time running. This follows his defeat in the 2016 and 2020 primaries respectively.

Dr. Kpessah-Whyte is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Politics and History at the Institute of Africa Studies (IAS), and the University of Ghana – Legon.

Meanwhile former President John Dramani Mahama emerged winner at the constituency level in the Presidential primaries with 1,218 votes while Kojo Bonsu also got 5 votes.

Speaking to the press, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo attributed the victory to her track record in the constituency which has given her a competitive advantage over her contenders.

She observed that she was eager to retain her seat even before the polls.

“There’s a saying that hard work pays – so in fact I wasn’t surprised I knew I’d win so it was something I was expecting,” the MP stated.

She assured the constituents of working extra hard on the floor of parliament to ensure that the poor-road network within the constituency gets the needed attention.

Despite being an opposition MP, the Shai-Osudoku legislator said she is poised to canvass millions of votes for the NDC and John Dramani Mahama to win the upcoming 2024 general elections and rescue Ghanaians from the unending hardship created by the NPP.

“Your vote shows that you trust me to be your voice and I cannot thank you enough for the confidence that you have shown in me. I promise to lead us to greater heights and accomplish all that I have set out to do,” an excited Linda Ocloo declared.

Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo assumed office as MP for the area in 2017 following the 2016 elections to succeed David Tetteh Assumeng who served as MP for the constituency from 2005 to January 6, 2017.
