At least 16 commuters have been confirmed dead when a passenger bus and a tanker vehicle collided head-on early Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Gomoa Okyerekoh in the Central Region.

Angelonline.com.gh Correspondent, Opanin Darko reports that 25 other persons who sustained severe injuries, have been rushed to the Winnebago Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

According to the reporter, eight persons on board the bus thought to be transporting about 40 passengers mostly Liberian nationals, died instantly in the crash.

Some seven others who were among the injured, died while being transported to the medical facility. The driver’s mate of the tanker vehicle also died but had been trapped in the vehicle, the reporter added.

It is unclear what caused the deadly crash which occurred around 4.45am causing long-winding traffic jam on the Accra-Takoradi highway.

Meanwhile, officials of the Fire and Police services are at the scene to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
