Parliament has sworn in Ernest Yaw Anim, the newly elected Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency in the Ashanti Region.

The swearing in was done by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin in Parliament on Tuesday June 6, 2023.

He was welcomed by leaders from both sides of the house, the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of the sitting MP. Phillip Basoah, who was buried on Saturday, 20 May 2023.

He secured 15,364 as against NDC’s Kwasi Amankwah who garnered 3,723.

An independent candidate, Kwaku Duah, who many political watchers predicted could cause an upset had 2,478 votes.

Another independent candidate also known as Kwaku Duah polled just 62 votes.
