The Executive Director of the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA), Rasheed Draman, has cautioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament to strike a careful balance between their core mandate and other activities of the House.

Mr Draman’s comment was in response to the minority caucus’ resolve to boycott proceedings of the legislature to support their embattled Assin North Constituency representative any day in court.

Speaking in an interview with Joy News monitored by Angelonline.com.gh Monday night, the ACEPA boss highlighted that the NDC is a party “likely to form government,” and as such, it would be expected of them to tread cautiously.

“Ghanaians are going to carefully judge it by either underperformance or overreaction, and in this matter, I think we are in the realm of overreaction,” said Mr Draman.

“How is the business of the House and the business of our country going to go on if the entire minority caucus decides to go to the Supreme Court? How are Ghanaians going to view this action of the opposition party?”

To the ACEPA boss, the actions of the NDC lawmakers may seem right in their eyes, “but some balance needs to be struck very very carefully so that the strategy doesn’t come to haunt the minority”.
