The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has cautioned the public to desist from dealing with middlemen locally called Gorogoro boys in applying for meters.

The Western Regional General Manager (GM) of the power distributor, Engineer Emmanuel Justice Ofori, gave the warning during the inspection of new smart meters being installed in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

“You have to come to the ECG office. If you don’t come and you give your money to just anybody [middlemen], they will squander it.

“And additionally, because they want to profit from it, they will charge higher than the actual amount, and you would have run at a loss,” said the General Manager.

The ECG in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis has taken delivery of some 40,000 smart meters from its partners which are being distributed among the population.

The General Manager said the new smart meter gives customers access to buy credit from their phones and monitor their daily consumption.
