The Police administration has asked the Minority to change routes selected for their demonstration against Bank of Ghana Governor and his deputies on 5 September 2023.

According to the Police, they are ready to provide the demonstrators with security but an assessment of the minority’s selected routes proves possible danger to public safety and order.

In a meeting held on Wednesday, August 23, between the law enforcement agency and the minority over the latter’s proposed route for their protest their initial plan was to converge at the frontage of Parliament House, march through the principal street of the capital and end at the premises of the Bank of Ghana.

After hours of the meeting, the Police Service asked the Minority to relocate the routes and the destination of picketing in the interest of public order, public safety and running of essential services.

“Following the security assessment, on 23 August 2023, the Command engaged the organisers and assured them that the Police are ready to provide them the needed security to exercise their constitutional right to demonstrate.”

“However, Police drew their attention to the fact that using their selected routes may endanger public order and public safety among others. We, therefore, requested the organisers to relocate the routes and destination of picketing in the interest of public order, public safety and running of essential services,” a police statement issued on Wednesday, said.

The statement said that the police are waiting to hear from the organizers to enable them to provide them with the necessary security during the protest.
