Residents of Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region rescued a 17-year-old Junior High School leaver who attempted suicide.

Vivian Boye, who lives with her father and her stepmother is reported to have attempted to take her own life on Friday, August 25, 2023.

According to residents, Vivian had left a letter behind for her father who had left home for farming, stating she was going to end her life.

Upon returning from the farm, the father found the letter his daughter wrote on a table in the room. He said, he rushed to Nkwanta police station to make a formal report and solicited their support to find the whereabouts of his daughter.

The suicidal girl, proceeding to perform the act with a knife, saw her plans fail after some persons spotted her in the area.

Some of the residents indicated they quickly intervened and rescued her, adding that following their conversations with her, she revealed that she was fed up and wanted to join her ancestors.

The residents, subsequently, sent her to the police station and handed her to the security personnel.
