Former Central Region Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has described the military as an institution which is more corrupt than politicians in Africa.
Speaking on Angel Morning Show on Thursday, August 31, 2023, Allotey Jacobs said most military in Africa call for coup because of “what they intend to gain from it, but not what the public would get from it, they rather steal more than the politicians.”
“These soldiers who organize the coup will not bring anything good into the country. They will even steal more than the politicians,” he said.
According to him, one major cause of coup in Africa, is the desire of the African leaders to over stay in power without allowing others to always come to power.
He said African leaders are with this mentality because of how we have tried to learn the western culture rather than ours.
“As a President, you would spend a lot of time in office and when your time is up, then, you hand power over to your child. Is it your own property?,” he queried.
He recommended the institution of laws that would demand that no President can change the Constitution of a country so he can over stay.
