The Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Serebour Quaicoe, has siad the commission has no intention to suppress in certain regions as has been alluded to by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other opposition political parties.

According to him, the assertion that the EC is engaging in voter suppression holds no water as the ongoing limited voter registration exercise is being conducted in all the 16 regions in the country.

The EC commenced the nationwide registration exercise on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 with the aim of registering first-time voters.

The exercise is ongoing at all district offices across the country in spite of a pending interlocutory injunction filed at the Supreme Court by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and four other minority parties.

The 21-day exercise expected to end on October 2, 2023 is targeted at registering at least 1,350,000 persons.

Speaking to Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah on the Angel Morning Show on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, Dr. Serebour Quaicoo said the EC is more concerned about implemeting its mandate of ensuring the sanctity of the voters.

“If you see what we are doing, it is nationwide and not restricted to specific places. And I don’t think there’s anybody in Ghana who owns any district.

“Anyone at the EC Commission who will make an attempt to use the exercise as a scheme to favor any political party needs to be examined…nobody will do that, I mean what we are doing is to only ensure the sanctity of the voters register,” he added.
