‘Leaked IGP tape won’t affect my political ambitions’ – CoP Alex Mensah

Retired Commissioner of Police (CoP) George Alex Mensah has downplayed the assertion that his involvement in the leaked tape of the plot to remove Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akufo Dampare will have a negative effect on his political ambition.

According to the former police officer turned politician, the development will have no effect on his chances of becoming a Member of Parliament (MP) in 2024.

COP Alex Mensah who recently retired from the Ghana Police Service after 31 years of service declared his bid to contest on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ticket in its upcoming primaries.

COP Alex Mensah, speaking on Angel Morning Show,  on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, said his political ambitions remains intact.

To him, the ongoing probe of the leaked tape has made him more popular adding that he intend capitalising on it to harvest more votes for the NPP for the NPP in 2024 when offered the chance to lead the party into the 2024 elections.

“God has different ways of blessing and elevating everyone, therefore, if you consider the current happenings, there are sessions of the public who might have gotten the opportunity to know who I [COP Alex Mensah] was.

He emphasized that his behind the scenes contributions to the ruling government while policing will give him an upper hands in the race.
