The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema West, Carlos Ahenkorah has observed that Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has had profound impact on him.

The former Trade Minister who withdrew from the NPP’s presidential primaries months ago and cited bias announced his departure from the NPP on Monday, September 25, 2023.

“I believe I have served my country well and intend to continue to do so. On the 5th of January 2023, I resigned honourably from my position as Cabinet Minister and declared my intention in a national broadcast to contest the Presidential primaries of NPP.

“Under the circumstances and given the context provided, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate,” he announced at a widely publicized press conference.

He added “To actualise this goal, I will establish and lead a new MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE in Ghana. The brand logo for the MOVEMENT is the monarch butterfly, which politically symbolises change and transformation, hope, and positivity. It also communicates strength, endurance, spirituality and trust, which are key traits that I cherish as a political leader. In Akan, it is known as afrafranto. The brand motto of the MOVEMENT is ‘Ghana Will Rise Again’, which symbolises hope for the future of Ghana.”

Commenting on the development, Mr. Ahenkora who served as a deputy minister to Alan Kyeremanten at the Trade and Industry Ministry said his allegiance to the NPP will remain unchaged despite having Alan Kyeremanten as a ‘close friend’.

“I am writing to share my thoughts on the recent resignation of Alan Kyerematen, with whom I had the privilege of working closely from 2017 to 2020 when I served as his deputy. His decision to step down has had a profound impact on me,” he wrote.

According to Mr. Ahenkorah, he developed a deep respect and admiration for Mr Kyeremanten because their collaboration efforts were instrumental in achieving its goals at the sector.

The Lawmaker through the letter wished Mr. Kyerematen good luck in his next political adventure as he seeks to become president in the 2024 general election.

“I extend my best wishes to Kyerematen as he embarks on a new chapter in his life. I hope he finds fulfilment and success in his future endeavors. Thank you for your understanding and continued support,” the letter added.
