The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has appealed to the President, Nana Akufo-Addo to as a matter of urgency consider resettling some victims of the Volta Floods in the neglected state housing project in Saglemi.

This, the Law Maker, said on Angel Morning Show, would help to ease the burden of the victims who remain stranded at Mepe five weeks after the spill gates of the Volta Dam were opened.

“The first contingency measure I will propose to government is to resettle some of these flood victims in the Saglemi Houses which have been idle since construction. That would certainly be better that they sleeping in classrooms and other open spaces…,” he said.

According to him, Saglemi is very close to the Mepe and as such the people will not resist any attempt at relocating them there adding that the people of Mepe would gladly accept to return to their ancestral home when the waters subside.

He told host, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah that this measure will also help to free the classrooms of Mepe so pupils can return to school and prepare for their various examinations.

“Our pupils will be sitting for the same examinations as those in other parts of the country…we are going to write the same BECE, same WASSCE etc with other school kids and WAEC will not give any exception to us because we experienced a natural disaster so the earlier our kids return to the classrooms, the better…,” he said.

According to Ablakwa, the people of Mepe feel neglected five weeks after the disaster happened as government seem to have turned a blind eye to their plight. He therefore called on the government to do the needful as the people are gradually losing faith.
