A former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hopeson Adorye, says the decision to sack him from the party was apt which came at the right time, to complement his birthday celebration.

Mr. Hopeson Adorye is one of four prominent members of the NPP to be dismissed for breach of the ruling party’s constitution.

The rest are former Communications Director; Yaw Buaben Asamoah, former General Secretary Yaw Boateng Gyan as well as former Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, Alhaji Boniface Saddique.

According to the NPP, the decision became necessary after the quartets publicly endorsed the candidature of Alan Kyerematen, an independent candidate for the 2024 general elections who ditched the NPP to form his Movement For Change political group.

Their dismissal was confirmed and made publicly in a statement issued and signed by the general secretary of the NPP Justin Frimpong Kodua on Monday, November 20, 2023.

Reacting to the development Hopeson Adorye who is a member of the Alan Kyeremanten campaign team said, the decision to expel him from the NPP was ‘laughable’ and ‘worthless’ in the eyes of the public.

“This is a waste of time for a general secretary to issue this kind of letter, everybody is aware that once you support a different candidate apart from the party’s candidate, you forfeit your membership.

So when you forfeit your membership, what is the use for you to come and write and put it out, I don’t think it is worth it,” unperturbed Hopeson Adorye said on Asaase Radio.

However, he was thankful to the leadership of the ruling party for presenting him with what he deemed a ‘befitting gift’ to coincide with the celebration of his birthday on a special day in his life.

“I thank the General Secretary [Justin Frimpong Kodua] very well for giving me this nice birthday gift – today [Monday] is my birthday and the general secretary is aware and decided to serve me this nice birthday, I’m very grateful to him,” Mr. Adorye expressed.

The 2020 failed Kpone Katamanso Member of Parliament reiterated that his unwavering support and endorsement for Alan Kyeremanten’s candidature was natural therefore he is not bothered to be axed from the NPP.

He added: “This will encourage me more. I am going to work hard to make sure Alan Kyerematen becomes the next president.”
