Festus Bumakama Agyapong, a prominent Professional Mining Engineer and native of Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region, has officially filed his nomination to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in 2024.

The decision comes after enthusiastic support from NPP delegates within the Sefwi Wiawso constituency, who believe Agyapong is the right candidate to retain the parliamentary seat.

Agyapong’s strong appeal among the youth in the constituency, particularly the NPP delegates, is attributed to his perceived ability to generate job opportunities and his amiable personality.

The delegates, speaking to the press, described him as sociable, humble, affable, and respectful.

They also acknowledged the developmental efforts brought to Sefwi Wiawso under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo since assuming office in 2017.

However, they emphasized the need for a young and energetic representative like Agyapong to maintain the parliamentary seat.

The NPP delegates in Sefwi Wiawso expressed a desire for a change in the current member of parliament and highlighted Agyapong’s down-to-earth nature and his genuine concern for the welfare of the youth.

They also praised his lobbying skills, which they believe can secure employment opportunities for the constituency’s young population.

Consequently, Agyapong has garnered significant support from NPP faithfuls, sympathizers, and the youth, who see him as the ideal candidate to address their needs.

In October, during the 21-day Limited Voters Registration Exercises organized by the Electoral Commission, Agyapong personally financed the provision of free food, drinks, and transportation for eligible individuals aged 18 and above, enabling them to register at the municipal Electoral Commission office in Sefwi Wiawso.

Recently, over 700 NPP delegates from Sefwi Wiawso, adorned in party colors and brandishing placards with slogans such as “Buma: Our Next Hope” and “No Buma, No Vote in 2024,” warmly welcomed Agyapong at the 2023 Annual Elluo Festival grounds.

Similar placard inscriptions were also displayed during a grand durbar attended by chiefs, dignitaries, and supporters during the climax of the 2023 Elluo Festival. His Excellency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, graced the occasion as the special guest of honor, while key NPP constituency officials witnessed Agyapong’s nomination filing process.

With Agyapong’s nomination, the race for the Sefwi Wiawso NPP seat promises to be highly competitive, as he aims to secure the party’s support and ultimately emerge as the parliamentary candidate for the 2024 general elections.
