Spokesperson for 2024 Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, Edudzi Tamakloe has described the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as an over-hyped economist who knows next to nothing about the management of the country’s economy.
According to him, the Vice President was packaged and presented to Ghanaians as a savior when he actually knew next to nothing about how to save even a cedi from sinking.
“Bawumia was simply a hype, he is not somebody who understands Ghana’s economy…we are in so much that we are unable to pay our external creditors, we couldn’t pay them a dime in 2023…,” he told host of Angel Morning Show, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
The member of the legal team of the NDC further claimed that Bawumia has failed and now heading an Economic Mismanagement Team as the team put together is failing to live up to expectation.
He made the comments in reaction to former President John Mahama’s request for a honeymoon from Ghanaians, particularly trade and labor groups.
This request comes in response to the increased demand for improved conditions of service from these groups.
Addressing attendees at a ‘Campus Connect’ event in Hohoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer stressed the importance of allowing time to revive the economy before tackling specific demands.
“And you will realize the harm that the NPP administration has done to Ghana’s economy. This country is broke, and so we will beg you that when we come into office give us a bit of a honeymoon, let’s put things in place so that we bring the economy back onto its feet,” he said.
The request by the former President has been condemned by various opposition members but Edudzi Tamakloe insists the level of mismanagement the country’s economy has suffered under the Akufo-Addo administration is enough testament that anyone who ascends the country’s presidential seat needs time to fix things.
“This justifies President Mahama’s statement because Ghana has been mismanaged by the Bawumia-led Economic Mismanagement Team to the extent that even President Akufo-Addo know Ghana is broke…,” he said.
