Apologise to Otumfuo if – Obiri Boahen counsels Wontumi

Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen has called on the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi to apologise to the overlord of the Asante Kingdom for allegedly challenging his authority.

The NPP Chairman has been accused of claiming that he is more powerful in the Ashanti Region than the Asantehene. He is said to have challenged the authority of the Asantehene at the vetting of candidates for the Parliamentary candidates in Kumasi.

The allegations has led to a series of press conferences in the region against Chairman Wontumi with the people calling on him to resign from his position.

Commenting on the same allegation on Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Monday, January 22, 2024, Nana Obiri Boahen who described the comments as ‘unfortunate’ called on Chairman Wontumi to apologise if indeed he made the comments.

“It is an unfortunate comment…but if Wontumi really said that, then he must be made to apologise because it is never the best…,” he told host, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah.

He however appealed to the NPP members in the Ashanti Region to be very careful as the divisions in the party in the region will affect the fortunes of the party in the 2024 elections.

To him, the NPP as a party will lose its good will in its strong hold if the case is not handled well.
