Akufo-Addo sacks over 20 MMDCEs; nominates new ones

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revoked the appointment of some 24 Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across the country.

The decision announced in a letter available to Angelonline.com.gh took effect immediately in accordance with the Constitution and the Local Government Act.

Per the letter, the decision was based on Article 243 (3) (b) of the Constitution and Section 20 (3) (b) of the Local Government Act, 2014 (Act 936).

The decision was contained in a ĺetter from President Akufo-Addo which was addressed to the Minister of Local Government and Decentralisation, Dan Kwaku Botwe.

Among the affected MMDCEs relieved of their duties are Martina Appiah Nyantakyi of Ahafo Ano North, Daniel Owiredu of Nkoranza South, Nii Lartey Ollenu of Amansie West, Alhaji Abdulai Adams of Pru East, Gmasombe Jerome Kofi Gyimah of Sene East, and Joseph Aidoo of Awutu Senya West.

Others include Seth Asante of Atiwa West, Samuel Kwame Agyekum of Asuogyaman, Comfort Asante of New Juaben North, Isaac Kwadzo Buabeng of Nsawam Adoagyire, and Daniel Alexander Nii-Noi Adumua of Adentan.

The President also Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Dan Botwe to supervise the directive from his office.

“I will respectfully request that you give immediate effect to my directive. I will, under separate cover, write to you to nominate their replacements,” the letter read in part.

In a separate letter, President Akufo-Addo also nominated replacements for the dismissed MMDCEs.

The immediate replacement is to ensure effective and efficient local governance in the country.
