Residents of Buadua in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region, risk being cut off as the only bridge leading to the area and surrounding communities, has developed very deep cracks.
The bridge said to have been constructed some 60 years ago by the country’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, is currently in a deplorable state and poses danger to its users.
The residents have, therefore, called on the government and other stakeholders in the district to help fix the problem to prevent any unforeseen disaster.
Reacting to the resident’s call on the Angel Morning Show (AMS), the District Chief Executive (DCE), Seth Ofosu Birikorang, explained that the cracks are as a result of the persistent use of the bridge by heavily loaded trucks.
The DCE further assured that actions have been taken towards addressing the situation.
“A letter has sent to the Regional Directorate of the Ghana Highway Authority in Koforidua calling their attention to the problem with the bridge and demanding that they fix it as well…,” he told host, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah.
