International Diplomatic Consultant, Farouk Al-Wahab has described as unfortunate and disappointing the call by the Finance Ministry on President Akufo-Addo to refrain from signing the recently passed Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill into law.
The call, Al-Whab speaking on Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Monday said is a “lazy” one as according to him, the Ministry should look at avenues of raising money for hte country instead of the traditional approach of soliciting help from international agencies.
The Finance Ministry had in a statement raised issues about the implications of the new bill which is awaiting assent by President Akufo-Addo.
The Ministry outlined the negative implications of the document on its expenditure, key government plans, and projects, asserting that Ghana could risk losing a potential US$3.8 billion if President Akufo-Addo assents to the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
“This is the first of its kind hearing this in the world and I’m sorry to say this, it will be, and it takes only a lazy finance ministry to make such a call,” he said.
According to the scholar, it is only an incompetent sector like the finance ministry that will lower its standard for such conversation.
He further accused the Finance Ministry of indirectly using the anti-gay bill to blackmail President Akufo-Addo to cover up their incompetence.
“On this note I will say the ministry is blackmailing the President of the Republic of Ghana particularly, and excuse me to say, using this useless defense to shield the economy under its watch. It is the biggest blackmail in the history of the world…,” he said.
He concluded and advised the finance ministry to focus on the restoration of the sinking economy by providing financial resources which will benefit Ghanaian citizens rather than indulging in what he terms as “needless.”
