Former Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan, has expressed his willingness to serve as the running mate to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flag bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the upcoming December general elections.

In a recent television interview, the ex-skipper of Ghana’s senior football team stated that if offered the opportunity, he would consider it an honour and would not turn it down.

“Honour is something everybody likes. I won’t reject it, but I know that’s big,” Gyan remarked, seemingly intrigued by the prospect.

While acknowledging that the question of being an NPP running mate was hypothetical, Gyan emphasized his commitment to leveraging his experience and knowledge gained from years in football for the advancement of Ghana’s sports sector.

Currently serving as the chairman of the Sports Sub-Committee of Vice President Bawumia’s manifesto committee, Gyan is actively involved in formulating strategic sports policies aimed at enhancing the country’s sports sector. He expressed his dedication to assisting the NPP flag bearer in shaping policies that would benefit Ghana’s sports sector should Bawumia be elected as President in the December presidential election.

Asamoah Gyan is renowned as the nation’s record goal scorer in all tournaments.
