The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed the case filed by George Afriyie challenging his disqualification by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) from the Associations’ presidential elections.

Mr. Afriyie was disqualified from contesting the incumbent President, Kurt Simon Okraku in the GFA presidential race in October 2023. He therefore petitioned CAS for a redress.

His disqualification made way for Kurt Okraku to go unopposed and was re-elected for the second time.

However, CAS, in its ruling upheld the Ghana FA’s Election Committee decision to disqualify George Afriyie, thus bringing finality of the case which started in September 2023.

George Afriyie in a post on Facebook wrote “I have today received the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) regarding my appeal against the Decision of the Elections of the Ghana Football Association. The CAS, in their decision have upheld the decision of the Election Committee of the GFA.”

The former GFA Vice President said he has accepted the decision in “good faith” and expressed his sincere “gratitude to everyone who supported me during this period.”
