The National Communication Authority (NCA) has announced that all the four damaged sub-sea cables that disrupted the data services have been fully repaired.
Ghanaians experienced network data challenges on March 14, 2024, which affected multiple undersea cables responsible for carrying international traffic.
The disruption occurred in Senegal and Cote D’Ivoire and with some disruptions in Portugal. This led to a significant degradation of data services across the country.
Speaking at the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2024, Director General at NCA, Joe Anokye said, the NCA has directed the mobile and sub-sea cable service providers to strengthen their regulatory oversight.
He added that all mobile network operators must connect to a submarine cable provider in the sub-region that is not currently landing in Ghana, so that incase they have challenges they can easily switch to it.
