The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has instructed Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to behave in a way that will validate accusations that he is not arrogant.

The Asantehene said he never saw Opoku Prempeh, a royal, as arrogant as a child, but it is now the responsibility of the Manhyia South Lawmaker to work and refute that claim.

The Asantehene remarked, “They say you are arrogant; don’t let what they say be the reality,” when President Akufo-Addo presented him with the Bawumia-Opoku Prempeh ticket on Tuesday, July 9, at Mahyia Palace.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was further instructed by the Asantehene Otumfuo to always obey his boss’s orders.

In order to make sure that Dr. Bawumia does not regret selecting him as his running mate, he counselled Dr. Opoku Prempeh to stand behind his boss.

“I have observed Opoku Prempeh’s development,” the Asantehene remarked. “Follow Bawumia with humility; don’t let him regret choosing you,” he continued.

He also asked Dr. Bawumai to let him know if Dr. Opoku Prempeh behaves badly when riding so he can correct him.

“Please inform me of any errors made so I can correct him,” he said.

For his part, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo voiced confidence in the Bawumia-Opoku Prempeh ticket’s ability to perform the job to Ghanaians’ expectations.

On Tuesday, July 9, at the Manhyia Palace, Mr. Akufo-Addo unveiled the NPP flagbearers and their running mates, Drs. Mahamudu Bawumia and Matthew Opoku Prempeh. Having worked with both gentlemen, he attested to their diligence.

“I am confident that the two of them can complete the task. Having collaborated with both of them, I am confident in their abilities. President Akufo-Addo stated, “I am confident that on December 7, after Ghanaians have given them the mandate, they will work to meet the expectations of Ghana.”

At an emergency meeting held on Thursday, July 4, in Accra, the National Council of the NPP overwhelmingly approved the appointment of Dr. Opku Prempeh.

Following the ceremony, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh gave the NPP’s members and supporters his word that he would assist Dr. Bawumia in running a strong 2024 campaign to end the eight-year electoral cycle.

He says to be aware that the task at hand calls for teamwork. He went on to exhort every NPP member to work together in order to accomplish their “ambitious goal of transforming Ghana into a prosperous nation.”

“I am deeply appreciative of the National Council, our party’s grassroots members, and our distinguished President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for their steadfast belief and backing in me,” he declared in a press release shortly after the NPP National Council unanimously selected him as the running mate on Thursday, July 3.
