Arrest publishers of ‘Agyapadie Document’ Owusua Bempah to IGP

The Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Kofi Owusu Bempah, has called on the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to arrest individuals linked to the publication of the controversial ‘Agyapadie’ document.

This call follows a series of allegations against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its members, who are purported to be involved in the dissemination of the document.

The 38-page document, published on awakenewsroom.com, features high-profile individuals, including the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, President Nana Akufo-Addo, and his late father. It allegedly outlines strategies for a particular ‘family’ or ‘clan’ to dominate various sectors such as the economy, politics, media, judiciary, telecommunications, and banking.

President Akufo-Addo has publicly dismissed the contents of the document, categorizing it as fictitious.

Owusu Bempah on his call to put perpetrators to order cited multiple legal provisions supporting his call for arrests, including sections from the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and the Criminal Offenses Act of 1960, which criminalize the publication of false information likely to cause public unrest.

The Deputy Director specifically mentioned key NDC figures—Dr. Omane Boamah, Okudzeto Ablakwa, Abraham Amaliba, and Edudzi Tamakloe—asserting their involvement in the document’s creation. He condemned the publishers of Awake News for what he described as a pattern of fake news dissemination and emphasized the need for accountability to prevent further misinformation.

Owusu Bempah urged swift action to enforce the law and ensure those responsible face the necessary legal consequences.
