I’ll appoint not more than 50 ministers under my administration – Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has responded sharply to John Dramani Mahama’s appeal to voters to choose him to “reset” Ghana.

Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), urged the electorate during the NDC’s manifesto launch to vote for him, claiming that the country is “bleeding” and its “soul is crying for change.”

In a media engagement on Sunday, August 25, Dr. Bawumia countered Mahama’s rhetoric, asserting that Ghana needs an upgrade, not a reset.

He emphasised that his vision for the country is focused on innovation, technological advancement, and sustainable growth.

“I represent the future; Ghana needs an upgrade, not a reset,” Dr. Bawumia stated, positioning himself as the candidate of progress and modernisation.

He laid out 14 key commitments he plans to pursue if elected in the 2024 elections.

These commitments are centred on transforming Ghana into a world-class digital economy, creating jobs, and improving the standard of living for all Ghanaians.

Among his pledges, Dr. Bawumia highlighted plans to sustain and expand Ghana’s rebounding economy, implement comprehensive tax reforms, and reduce the cost of living.

He also emphasised the importance of expanding public infrastructure, providing better healthcare, and ensuring good governance.

Dr. Bawumia’s vision extends to social issues as well, with promises to implement affirmative action for girls and women, care for the elderly, and expand educational opportunities.

On the security front, he assured voters of his commitment to protecting Ghana’s borders and maintaining safety in local communities.

This response marks a clear differentiation between the two leading candidates’ approaches to Ghana’s future.

While Mahama calls for a complete reset to address what he sees as the country’s declining state, Bawumia focusses on enhancing and upgrading existing systems to build a more advanced and prosperous nation.

His emphasis on digital transformation and economic modernisation underscores his belief that Ghana’s path forward lies in leveraging technology and innovation to drive development.

As the 2024 elections approach, the contrasting visions presented by Bawumia and Mahama offer voters a choice between a call for sweeping change and a promise of strategic upgrades to propel Ghana into a new era of growth and stability.
