NDC not better than the NPP in ‘galamsey’ fight – New Juaben South MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben South Assembly, Isaac Appaw-Gyasi, says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has no grounds to criticize the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) efforts in combating illegal mining, also known as “galamsey.”

Speaking Tuesday, September 3, 2024, on the Angel Morning Show (AMS), Appaw-Gyasi emphasized that former President John Mahama’s administration did little to address the issue of galamsey. He pointed out that Mr. Mahama even resorted to using a plane to monitor illegal mining activities, yet failed to take any meaningful action.

“The former President, Mahama, once declared that Kyebi was the headquarters of galamsey. The NDC had no policy in place to stop galamsey but instead disrespected the people of Kyebi,” Appaw-Gyasi remarked.

He argued that illegal mining became rampant during Mahama’s tenure and the government under the NDC administration, made no significant attempts to curb it.

Appaw-Gyasi concluded by saying that the NDC has no right to speak on the issue of galamsey, as they were ineffective in addressing it during their time in power.
