Our greatest threat to Ghana’s democracy is EC – Nyaho-Tamakloe

A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, expressed growing concern about the Electoral Commission (EC) noting it activities reached alarming proportions to the country’s democracy.

The outspoken politician said the actions and inactions of the election body is dangerous to the system of governance practiced by Ghana.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe made this statement at a forum organized by the Crusaders Against Corruption event in Accra on the theme, “The Scarface of Corruption in Ghana.”

He reminded Ghanaians to closely monitor the activities of the EC to ensure that it does not lead the country into a mess.

“We have had leaders, I am saying that at the moment, the greatest threat to our democracy is the electoral commission.
That is the greatest threat to our democracy and if we are not careful, we will lead this country into destruction. Mark my words,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe warned.

He supported his argument with the recent voter registration exercise, where he accused the EC of unauthorized transfers of voters from one constituency to another without any prior notice of these voters.

“….Why do I say so? How on earth can transfers be made from one particular constituency to another without the consent of the person? these are facts,” he cited.
