Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has responded to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s remark labeling him as ‘second-hand,’ while urging Ghanaians to vote for a ‘brand new’ President on December 7.

The former President, referencing second-hand vehicles, stated that they have proven to be of quality and therefore embraced the label.

During a community engagement in the Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency in the Eastern Region, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer urged Ghanaians to vote for a “brand new, tear-rubber President” with fresh ideas to address the nation’s challenges by choosing the NPP in the upcoming elections.

Dr. Bawumia characterized a vote for Mahama as a choice for a ‘second-hand, failed President.’

However, speaking to residents of Sene East in the Bono Region during his tour, Mahama urged Ghanaians to reflect on his government’s past performance and compare it to the current regime when deciding who to elect as President.

Mahama further explained that people say they need a ‘tear-rubber’ President, meaning a new one, but if they describe him as a ‘second-hand’ President or something old, he accepts it because old things have more experience than new ones therefore experience matters, and he has it.

“Someone said that if he is voted for, he will be a ‘tear-rubber’ president, meaning he will be new. And when they vote for someone else, that person will be ‘second-hand,’ implying a used driver. If they say I’m second-hand or something old, I accept it because old things have more experience than new ones.”

Mahama further stated that the NDC has governed the country before, and everyone can testify to how it was compared to the current government.

“The NDC has governed this country before, and we all know how our lives were under our leadership. The NDC is the king of development.”
