Former Member of Parliament for Adentan Constituency, and a senior Spokesperson of Movement for Change, Yaw Buaben Asamoah, says it is time Ghanaians forced political leaders in the country to resign from their various posts.

He expressed worry about how successive governments have failed to help fight illegal mining in the country.

Speaking on Thursday, September 5, 2024, on the Angel Morning Show with Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, Mr. Buaben classified as selfish and greedy Ghanaian leaders and called for showing them the exit door.

“There are areas in Ghana where mining activities are taking place dangerously close to people’s homes, posing serious risks to communities and the only effective way we can hold our leaders accountable is through voting them out, so it’s time we move beyond the NPP and NDC and focus on electing leaders who truly prioritize the nations well-being.

We must arrest those who are protecting those who are protecting and enabling illegal activities, confront them about their involvement, and if they cannot fulfill their duties, they should be compelled to resign. Accountability is key to ending this destructive practice,” he said.

He also accused political leaders of their involvement in the galamsey practice, adding that the same people are “responsible for bringing in the machinery used for illegal mining, understanding efforts to protect our natural resources and environment.”

According to the Movement for Change senior communicator politicians have been aiding these foreign nationals such as the Chinese to come into the country for the galamsey.
