Founder of the Union Government, Akwasi Addai Odike has stated that the Ghanaian military force is “very weak”, which he said raises concerns about the country’s security.

Speaking on the illegal mining also known as galamsey menace in the country, he said the military have been so compromised to the extent that their commitment needed to fight illegal mining is nothing to write home about.

According to Odike, Ghana’s failure to clamp down on the activities of illegal mining can be attributed to a lack of effectiveness from the military.

In his statement made Monday, September 9, 2024 on the on the Angel Morning Show, Odike said: “Because illegal mining hasn’t reached the doorstep of the military barracks, they don’t care.”

He told show host, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah that: “The soldiers have brought great disgrace and disappointment to Ghana. The Ghanaian military is among the worst, as they have failed to defend their own country.”

“The soldiers are just as guilty as the perpetrators of the illegal mining,” Odike said further.
