The La District Court has remanded for two weeks, a final-year student at O’Reilly Senior High School, who fatally stabbed a classmate.

The student, whose name has been withheld, had been provisionally charged with murder.

The court did not accept his plea and ordered him to return on September 19, 2024.

The adjournment was to enable the police to conduct further investigations into the matter.

Edward Borketey Sackey was murdered by a classmate after a disagreement over who had wealthier parents.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has urged the public to refrain from speculation and allow the investigative process to unfold.

In a statement issued in Accra on September 4, 2024, the GES expressed profound regret over the tragic incident at O’Reilly Senior High School that resulted in the death of Edward Sackey.

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to the bereaved family, friends and the entire school community.”

According to the statement, on September 4, 2024, the Director General of GES led a delegation to visit the school and the deceased’s family to offer condolences.

It said “We will continue to support the school and assure the public that we are working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation.

“We hope to conclude our administrative investigations within two weeks while the Police Service handles the criminal investigations.

“We are pleased to report that calm has been restored on the campus, and we are working to ensure the well-being and safety of all students and staff.”

The statement said the GES was committed to providing a “secure and conducive learning environment for all students.”

“We will continue to work tirelessly to prevent such incidents and ensure our schools remain safe spaces for academic excellence.”
