Election 2024: Bernard Mornah, 11 others dropped from presidential race

The Electoral Commission has disqualified some 12 persons who had earlier picked the nomination forms to run for president in the December 7, 2024 elections.

Notable among them is Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, the leader of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).

The name of former General Secretary of the PNC, Janet Nablah is also missing from the list released by the EC’s on Friday, September 20, 2024.

Others who could not make the cut are Samuel Apea-Danquah, Desmond Abrefah, Dr Samuel Sampong Ankrah and Nii Amu Darko.

The rest are Nana Stephen’s Adjepong, Paul Perkoh, James Kwesi Oppong and John Enyonam Kwakwu Kpikpi.

Some 25 individuals had initially picked up the nomination forms to contest for the presidential slot but a the release issued by the EC and signed by its Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey said only 12 people successfully went through the filing process.

They are the usual front-runners, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,l of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Alan John Kyerematen leading the Movement for Change.

Others are Christian Kwabena Andrews of the Ghana Union Movement, Daniel Augustus Lartey of Great Consolidated Popular Party, George Twum Barima and Nana Kwame Bediako popularly called ‘Cheddar’ both of whom are running independent.

Only two women; Madam Akua Donkor and Nana Akosua Frimpomaa secured their names on the ballot sheet representing the Ghana Freedom Party and the Convention People’s Party.

Hassan Ayariga of the All People’s Congress, Mohamed Frimpong of the National Democratic Party, Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana as well as Kofi Koranteng also running independent, conclude the list of the men and women who will be seeking the mandate of the people on the election day.

The EC is set to hold balloting in the late afternoon of Friday, September 20.
