A communication team member for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ellen Ama Daaku has argued that mining cannot be outlawed in this country, it has existed for 400 years

According to her, gold can be found everywhere in Ghana, fourteen of Ghana’s sixteen regions, including the Northern region have mining activities underway.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show, Ama Daaku expressed her views that, “we need to focus our attention on illegal mining.

“The issues is not mining itself but rather, illegal mining. Mining cannot be outlawed in this country because more than five million people are active in small-scale mining activities, before we include the major ones. So if we accepted to do that, where will the workers work,” she asked on the show on Monday, September 30, 2024.

Ama Daaku argued that, “nobody is going to ban illegal mining, it has already been prohibited in our country, there is no law that allows us to mine gold illegally; it’s against our laws and anyone caught in the act should be arrested.”
