The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has reversed its decision to print ballot papers for the 2024 General Elections without the certified voters register.
This change, according to a release from the main opposition political party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) follows the observations and resistance expressed by the public and key stakeholders.
Below is the release from the NDC:
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has reversed its decision to print ballot papers for the 2024 General Elections without the certified voters register. This change follows the observations and resistance expressed by the public and key stakeholders.
In Paragraph 2 of the EC’s letter dated October 9, 2024, the Commission stated: “…the Commission will commence printing of Notice of Poll and Ballot Papers for the 2024 General Election from Friday, 11th October, 2024…”—without initially distinguishing the inclusion of a certified voters register.
This U-turn by the EC is a result of the timely and necessary efforts made by the people of Ghana and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to ensure transparency in the electoral process. We extend our congratulations to the people of Ghana and the leadership of the NDC for standing firm in protecting the integrity of our elections.
It is evident that Ghanaians understand the intricacies of election rigging. It is not a one-time event but a process that involves poor management or non-adherence to key control points. Raising concerns is not alarmist but a critical approach to ensuring the EC delivers free and fair elections.
To the youth of Ghana, we assure you that Agenda #ResetGhana is on course, and the #24HourEconomy is coming.
Signed,
Prof Joshua Alabi
Presidential Campaign Manager
