Ghana’s journey in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers has encountered a worrisome setback following defeat away to their Sudanese counterpart, leaving them with no victory after four matches.

Ghana, succumbed to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the hands of Sudan on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Martyrs of February Stadium (Benghazi), Libya.

The Sudanese who played their home game from away scored two quick second half goals to deepen the woes of a disjointed Ghanaian team who are winless in four matches.

Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud Mohammed and Yousif Yagoub were the scorers for the home side to hand Coach Otto Addo’s side their second defeat of the qualifying campaign.

The Sudanese side led by Ghanaian Coach Kwesi Appiah, were superior on the day which made them a deserving victor. This means they are now second on the Group F table with 7 points, just two points behind leaders Angola.

Ghana is in a very difficult position to qualify after four games, standing two points behind second place Sudan and leaders Angola who have accumulated nine points in three matches.

Angola travels tonight to play Niger and any result apart from defeat will see them book a place in the tournament in Morrocco.

Ghana is now left with two matches – against Angola and Niger, both home and away, respectively. They must win both matches at all costs and hoped that Sudan loses their remaining matches to stand at a position to qualify.
