Former Member of Parliament for the Ayensuano Constituency in the Eastern Region, Samuel Ayeh-Paye, has expressed strong opposition to the return of former President John Dramani Mahama, asserting that Ghana has no reason to bring him back to power.

Speaking in a recent interview, on the Angel Morning Show, Ayeh-Paye questioned the rationale behind the call for Mahama’s comeback bid, especially considering his past leadership record.

According to Ayeh-Paye, Mahama’s tenure as president did not benefit the country, and there is no justification for Ghanaians to replace their trust in him a second time.

“Some people are calling for John Dramani Mahama to come and rule the country, but what I want to tell Ghanaians is that we [the NPP] can govern this country. Therefore, we don’t need former President Mahama,” he stated emphatically.

He said also that “Galamsey has become a topical issue that is now part of our body-politics campaign, and we in the NPP have stated our position on this issue. He should also come out and share his plans to combat the practice if he is given power,”

Ayeh-Paye further argued that Mahama has struggled to provide a clear interpretation of his proposed 24-hour economy policy, adding that the former statesman lacks the credibility to bring tangible development to the people.

“No one is urging Mahama to come and teach the NPP how to govern the country. If he truly knew how to do so, he wouldn’t have presented such inconsistent interpretations of his own policy— the 24-hour economy,” the former lawmaker told Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah.

According to him, the NDC presidential candidate does not have a clear “message” for Ghanaians and accused him of displaying a double standard in his discussions about illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

He urged Ghanaians to keep the NPP in power during the December 7th elections, allowing Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the country with visionary plans for its future.
