The Director of Operations for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah, has expressed his disappointment in Ghana’s Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, labeling his policies as “low-hanging fruit.”
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show on November 6, 2024, Nkrumah stated that the Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) focuses on simple, quick wins that can yield immediate benefits without requiring significant effort.
According to Nkrumah, the Vice President is diverting Ghanaians’ attention from his campaign, as he does not stick to the real issues he campaigned on during the 2020 elections.
He further explained that Dr. Bawumia has made up his mind not to listen to any criticism, instead claiming he is a “digital man” championing digitalization and mobile interoperability. To him, these are good results achieved without much effort.
“We’re in the era of technology, and there’s nothing we can do about it. Even if it happens that he was the one brought mobile money, like he will make noise about it,” he emphasized.
Mr. Nkrumah further accused the Vice President, noting that the dollar rate has increased during his tenure, questioning how Bawumia can claim success in managing the dollar and the cedi.
“One thing I know is that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is able to implement the 1 dollar to Ghc 17 policy, and he has implemented it well,” he stated.
He added, “If the flagbearer of the NPP wants a debate, he should rather debate with the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, so they can agree on certain matters and discuss their disagreements.” According to him, Dr. Bawumia is claiming credit for all the new policies that have been implemented.
He further explained that Dr. Bawumia derives his authority from Nana Akufo-Addo, as the President stated in his State of the Nation address that all the major brains and economic policy implementations are attributed to the flagbearer of the NPP who stands behind him.
“What has changed that Bawumia should step aside? He does not know anything but only the new things,” he opined.
